Intellectual disability (ID), also referred to as general learning disability, is a condition that affects both intellectual and adaptive abilities during development. Typically, ID is identified by an IQ score below 70-75, along with difficulties in two or more areas related to conceptual skills, social abilities, or everyday activities. It can occur on its own or be part of a syndrome involving other clinical characteristics, often involving genes associated with those features. ID is commonly linked with other developmental conditions such as autism spectrum disorder and epilepsy. The Intellectual Disability Panel examines more than 2500 genes related to intellectual disability, whether it presents alone or alongside other syndromic features.
